Fisher-Price Musical Table

I thought I'd share this great toy we bought for L when he was 6 months old.  He is getting some good use out of this musical table.  L is now 17 months old, he plays with the table everyday.  He really enjoys pushing all the buttons, dancing to the music, seeing things light up.  At first L played with the table top without attaching the legs to the table, he favorite was pushing the bee up and down.  As he got older we attached the legs and it helped him stand up and walk around the table.  Then he pushes it around the floor as he become more mobile.  I think this is one great toy, it teaches letters, numbers, shapes, colors.

Kale Chips

A friend of mine has been making these for a while now.  I have never had kale, so I thought it would taste bitter.  But as my little L is starting to eat solid food, I want to feed him more green vegetables.  I saw a grocery store advertisement last week and organic kale was on sale.  I picked up a bunch and asked my friend how to make it.  It is super easy she said.  And it is.  Here is what you will need.

1 bunch of kale, any variety, washed and dried.  Remove leaves from stem
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 teaspoon of sea salt

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.  Place kale on baking sheet, drizzle olive oil over the leaves, then sprinkle the sea salt.  Use your fingers and rub oil and salt into the leaves and tear into bite size pieces.  Lay them in a single layer, you might need to use more than 1 baking sheet.  Bake for 10 - 20 minutes rotate pans and turn the leaves half way thru.  Check for crispiness.  These tastes like the roasted seaweed that we get at the grocery store.

Other variety to try:  black pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic, garlic salt, parmesan cheese

Who Needs More Energy?

On Monday night I saw Dr. Oz show as I was channel surfing.  They had a segment on fatigue or low energy level.  The doctor they had on recommends taking Rhodiola Rosea, it will help you focus and give you more energy.  Start with 100 mg a day for 1 to 2 weeks, then increase to 200 mg.  She said her patients had the best results around 400 mg a day and had been on it for 3 - 4 months.

I am all for more energy!  I wish I had known about this earlier when I was bottle feeding L and waking up every 2 hours to pump breast milk for him.  I had little memory about other things that was going on around me due to lack of sleep and tiredness.  Nonetheless, that's the past; I need energy these days too now when my little guy is going no stop.

Whey Protein Shakes

Edible Playdough

Lately, I have been on the internet and I've stumbled across an interesting recipe for edible playdough. It is pretty easy to make.

              

 The ingredients needed are: 

• one 18-oz. jar of creamy peanut butter

• 6 tablespoons of honey

• 3/4 cups non-fat dry milk

Mix the ingredients together, using varying amounts of dry milk for a desired consistently.

When not using, MUST store in an airtight container.

Easy Peasy Peanut Butter Cookies
 - 3/4 to 1 cup sugar, depending on how sweet you like your cookie
 - 1 egg
 - 1 cup peanut butter

Heat oven to 350.  Mix sugar and egg well, then add mix in peanut butter.  Using 2 spoons drop spoonfuls on a baking sheet.  Deep a fork in sugar and press on the cookies to flatten. Bake 10 - 12 minutes.  Makes about one dozen.

Crepes for breakfast.  Here is an easy recipe for 1 person
 1 large egg
  pinch of salt
  1/2 cup flour
  1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp milk
  1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1 tablespoon sugar
  1 tablespoon oil

In a bowl whisk egg with salt.  Add flour, half of the milk and all the other ingredients.  Whisk the batter and add the remaining milk.  Make sure no lumps in the batter.  Allow to sit for 1 hour.  Heat a nonstick frying pan on medium heat, add a bit of oil.  Spoon 3 tablespoons of batter and swirl pan to coat bottom.  Cook until the top appears dry, flip and cook another 30 seconds. Transfer to plate, cover to keep warm.
   Serve with a dusting of powder sugar, Nutella, bananas and whipped cream, or scrambled eggs, bacon and ham.  You can also make crepe Suzette - fold crepes in quarter. Heat 2 tablespoons butter and 2-3 tablespoons orange marmalade in sauce pan.  Add crepes and move around to coat, turn crepes and repeat.  Transfer to serving plate.
